Operators need inert targets that let them rehearse the full mine/UxO workflow in conditions that feel operationally real, without introducing live risk. That includes practising detection and classification, confirming geometry and contact points, planning approach routes, and rehearsing attachment/placement steps using the same tools and handling methods they’ll rely on in the field.

In many programmes, suitable targets are limited, inconsistent, or not representative of what crews actually encounter, which can lead to training gaps, reduced confidence, and avoidable risk once procedures move into real operations.

Teams also need assets that stand up to repeated use, can be configured to match different scenarios (shape, mass, buoyancy, recovery approach), and support structured trials and validation so kit performance and operator technique can be measured and improved over time—all while keeping exercise control straightforward and safety uncompromised.
