NAU Snare

NAU Snare

NAU Snare is a diver- or ROV-deployable lifting and recovery device that can be fitted to any ROV manipulator, attaching to steel, aluminium or GRP for underwater or on-land recovery tasks to 300m.

The Challenge

Secure and move unknown underwater objects quickly—without risky rigging or unreliable attachment.

During salvage, search-and-recovery, and object interrogation tasks, operators are often working against time in low visibility, restricted access, and dynamic conditions (currents, surge, shifting loads).

The challenge isn’t just finding the object—it’s making a safe, dependable attachment point without putting divers unnecessarily close, and without relying on improvised slings or hooks that can slip, snag, or fail under load.

Teams also need an approach that works across different target materials (steel, aluminium, GRP) and shapes, and that can be executed using the ROV they already have, rather than a specialist platform. Once attached, the load may exceed a single device’s safe working capability, so operators need the option to scale the lift by deploying multiple units.

And critically, the system must remain practical and safe to prepare, including being primed prior to deployment and triggered reliably on contact, while keeping the overall method cost-effective for repeat use.

NAU Snare Key features & benefits

What NAU Snare solves

NAU Snare provides a safe, compact, silent, non-magnetic attachment and lifting method that can be primed before deployment and triggered on contact, supporting controlled recovery, dragging, and relocation of underwater objects (including floating/drifting items) using common ROVs such as VideoRay platforms.
Depending on the material attached to, it can lift up to 800kg, supporting salvage and recovery operations.
Designed for deployment by diver or ROV, and can be fitted to any ROV manipulator.
Uses commercially available powder actuated cartridges; supplied inert and designed to be safe and cost effective.
Fully modular “toolbox” approach; can be buoyancy compensated to neutral, and multiple units can be deployed if load exceeds SWL.
